I do not usually see TRAINS; there are too many Diesels to suit me.

However, I just saw the May 2009 issue which is devoted to rail preservation and includes a roster of museums, train rides and tourist railways.

On page 26 is an excellent article about "What We Can Learn From British Preservation". They have used the Great Western Railway as just one of several good examples. There are two museums about the line originally built to broad gauge by I.K. Brunel. He built to Bristol and then started building ships to go East.

The only thing about the GWR that got left out is the fact that the folks at Swinden have built from scratch the steam engine and power truck for a Rail Motor. That is the steam powered vehicle that was similar to the Interurbans here in the US.

The issue had a lot of good information about what is happening over here as well.

Your local model/train store is very likely to have an issue floating around or you can get it from the publisher!

I am surprised that nobody thought to mention the issue last summer; but then it's always better late than never!
