I don't know how many other railroad museums run excursions on nearby railroads for fun and revenue generation, but IRM has a tradition that goes back many years. The Snowflake Special is most often a tour over the CTA in Chicago, and features runs over rarely used track which makes it all the more interesting. Trips on other systems have been run over the years as well.

This year a trip over the CTA will be operated with 2200 series L cars - the last with "blinker" doors operating on the system. A rider should expect a long day, and a fun one. March 28, 2010. Funds will go for indoor storage and restoration of the 2000 series Pullman CTA cars at IRM.
