Can someone please tell me what the total heating surface for a CP G-5 is?

And if anyone here has been involved in doing boiler calculations for one of these locomotives, please email me.

I would recommend you check with Tim Sposato of Ohio Central. Am sure you know these guys from their wheel work at TVRM for 6325.

Total evaporative heating surface for CP #1272 Class G-5d is 199 + 2,377 = 2576 sq. ft. Superheater surface is 744 sq. ft. (Type A) Grate area 45.6 sq. ft.

We've talked about recognizing its CN heritage by doing a Maple Leaf on the cylinder jacketing. Would "Let's Roll" look okay there or should we place those words on the tender?

We'll be getting those words on the 610 very soon. I also want to get a special instruction out that instructs the conductors to authorize proceed soley with the words "Let's Roll".

Would any other steamers look as good as the 4449 in Red, White and Blue? I think those colors should be hers alone due to her days on the AFT. We'll fly the Colors on the 610 and the 630 but they'll both remain black.

The Maple Leaf on t he cylinder jacket is a cool idea.

"Let's roll'" was neat once, but it will become as over-hyped as *nsync if everything that moves gets it painted on it.

A novel idea would be to take your pre 9-11-2001 relic and restore her to an as-built appearance. I know that probably doesn't suit your organization's goal, but it would be nice to honor the artifact in your posession with a full restoration - mechanical and aesthetic.

We are in an interesting time from an historic perspective, and many of us have different (and valid) feelings about how it affects us and our views.

For me, I'm more inclined to honor the past with greater reverence.

CNYNRHS "DL&W E8s 807 and 808" were in Hoboken NJ within sight of the WTC when those PIG MURDERERS flew those jets into the towers on Sept. 11. They were in town for the Try Transit Festival, held at the Hoboken Terminal on Sept. 8, 2001 If I ever get to work on those units again, I will ask the Board's permission to place a plaque inside the cabs of the units.

PS, If Hume would like, I could scan in a photo I took early in the morning of Sept.8 of the two E units with the WTC in the background.
