In the process of cleaning out the NX23 today we found a FRED that has AL&S painted on it. Anybody know who is or was the AL&S? Later! Mr. Ed |

Perhaps the Alton & Southern Railway, as the reporting marks "ALS" are registered to them. Jim Tatum. |

Two questions: Given the heritage of the cabin you found it in could the lettering have been ALQS for the Aliquippa and Southern? and Is it a modern FRED or is it an older electric marker? GME |

We put the FREDs in there many years ago. But whoever put them in the car figured that since the tops are flat, they should be stored that way. Yep, the batteries drained out and ate at the wiring. Some surface rust inside at the top but still solid. It was stacked with a Conrail FRED that also was laid on it's top. The only difference between the AL&S and the Conrail is the lens color. The CR has an amber lens, the AL&S has a red lens. Both are older models with a big light and an air pressure gauge on the side. No fancy electronics in the box. Later! Mr. Ed |
