As we approach the 35th aniversary of the American Freedom Train, I thought it appropriate to enclose this link on the subject. http://freedomtrain.org/html/main.htm Item of interest: the 1947 edition of the train was in Charleston, W.Va., on Sept. 25, and in Huntington, W.Va. on Sept. 26. Harry Truman's campaign special ran from Ashland, Ky. to Montgomery, W.Va. over the same route less than a week later, on Oct. 1, 1948. That's some history in a close time frame! |

Also in this same time frame was the operation of the FRIENDSHIP TRAIN in 1947, where the American public donated items for the war savaged peoples of Europe. The forty nine "40 & 8" cars that France returned to the United States were to express their appreciation of American help to their country. Les |
