Did anyone read the recent flimsy post with the link to an agreement letter of 1963? The article assumes the letter will assist the museum in staying for a little longer, but did anyone notice the statement in the letter that the rolling stock would be the property of the State Fair of Texas? Ouch! Not exactly a helpful document.

That is not quite my read. In making the proposal for the museum on the fairgrounds, Mr. DeGoyer was making an offer that we do not know the subsequent out come of.

He wrote:
"Other special considerations"
" (1) ownership: Other than in the exceptional case of the observation-cafe car, which the club would like to have as its own property, the club is perfectly willing for ownership of the above outlined equipment to resided in the State Fair of Texas."

At this time we have no knowledge if this enticement for the establishment of the museum was taken up. To me that would be covered in a subsequent agreement between the Southwestern Railroad Historical Society and the State Fair.

But the letter does show a long-time relationship as it mentions the Dallas UT switcher and the old yard office as being on the fairgrounds in 1963.

Noting the date of the proposal... I would imagine that the residents of Dallas would soon have their mind on other things.
