Two old KCS freight cars were recently rediscovered because someone remembered seeing them many, many years ago. Several volunteers went out to inspect them a few weeks ago.

The owner of the land(in Crawford County, KS) is an 87 year old woman who said her family started homesteading the property in 1859. Her father bought the cars and built a barn over them when she was a girl(about 1930 or so). The farmhouse on the property is vacant....no one has lived on the land in 20 years.

They discovered KCS boxcar 14572 and KCS stockcar 30261(in remarkably good condition).

I have no idea when equipment registers started being published. Is there any way to know how old these are from their numbers.

Greg -

Two questions:

1. Any photos?

2. Does either car have underframes?

To give a rough idea, here is a boxcar 30 numbers higer on the Fallen Flags site:

The stock car on George's site is over 200 numbers higher, so it probably isn't close.
