I'm assuming this is the same locomotive that is now on display in Flgstaff. It looks as though she lost her tender sometime late in life.

It does indeed seem to be the same engine. It's stuffed and mounted between the Flagstaff Amtrak station and old Hwy 66, which is a very good train watching area, as the Transcon goes right past there at mainline speeds. I saw this engine on our trip to the Grand Canyon in 2007. She was in pretty good cosmetic condition at that time.

There are two retired steamers on display in Flagstaff, and both are kept in excellent condition. 2-8-0, #2, is at the station in town, along Rt. 66, and is a fabulous train watching site, as expressed above. The other is a Southwest Lumber, 2-6-6-2, just outside town at the Homestead Museum. Both appear to be terrific candidates for renewal someday. Both are oil burners.

The last time I was in Flagstaff and looking over 25, I accidentally discovered a well-hidden "geocaching" "treasure box", hidden in a spot well out of the weather and attached with magnets. This was well before most people had heard of the hobby/craze/whatever.

And while I was shooting trains on the adjacent Santa Fe Transcon and/or in the brewpub across the street, I witnessed someone apparently seeking the box in question. <:-)
