On behalf of a rail associate, I am posting an "all-points bulletin" for BDLX 106, former Amtrak 106, built by Alco in June 1951, #78879, as NYC 8263, Class DRSP-6c. It was reclassified as Class DRS-2c and renumbered 5263, Class ARS-16, in 1966. It became PC 5263, Class ARS-16, in 1968 and became Amtrak 106 in 1976. It was rebuilt at New Haven in July 1981.

The loco was sold at some point to a leasing outfit that leased it first to switch Amtrak Express at Toledo, Ohio and then to the Con Agra mill in Huron, Ohio.

Supposedly this loco was offered to my friend for parts or use; when he sent an associate of his to inspect it at its last reported location at the Con Agra yard, just north of U.S. 6 at the intersection with River Road on the east side of the river, the second guy reported that "all the tracks are gone, and [Norfolk Southern] took the locomotive somewhere and is reportedly looking for the owner"--?!?!?!?

Any eyes, spies, railroad computer checkers, or satellite operators up for a challenge?

That's quite interesting. Any idea when the pictures were taken?

After BLDX 106 left Huron,Oh. it ended up at the NS Bellevue yard over in our B-yard briefly for maybe a week if that,but that was at least a good year ago! I walked right by the darn thing one evening when getting on some road power for my train.I'm a little bit familiar with this engine as i rode in it once about 15 years ago when the L&WV RR at Wellington,Oh leased it for a couple weeks from the late Bill Fuehring to use on it's Halloween train rides when Bill had it delivered and went over the unit with the guys there.After that it soon ended up at Huron where it stayed until leaving.

The B yard at Bellevue is only a small 4 track yard wich is usually used for parking engines from inbound trains that don't need major servicing other than fueling wich are then used on outbound trains.It is also used to park high/wide loads,some passenger cars ocasionally and also brand new units that pass thru going to other destinations.

When i walked by old 106 that evening i thought boy that old tired girl looks familar,she was getting rather rusty and had deffinately seen better days!

BDLX is Big Dog Leasing, based in Pittston, PA.

(BDLX is related to RMDI in Pittston..I believe that RMDI is the locomotive rebuilder, and BDLX is the leasing side of the operation.)

They have a yard there (former LVRR Coxton yard) where many old derelict units are stored..some get fixed up and returned to service, others are scrapped.

If 106 still exists, odds are good she found her way back there, and is perhaps stored there now.

BDLX is the reporting marks used by Ron Delavan's Big Dog Leasing. A deal was made with a group for ownership. In the mean time the city Huron wanted the site cleaned to build condos and informed Mr Delavan that the locomotive had to go NOW or be scraped on site. There was no time to waste. He requested some help to prevent that from happening. As part of the deal for for ownership said help was given.
