Forty years ago this June, my bride to be was desperately seeking a copy of "Mixed Train Daily" to present to me on our wedding day. She had no idea where to look, so called the Strasburg's gift shop. Bill and Marian promised to get a copy to her in time -- and they did. Though we never met them, we both have always remembered their kindness, and that book remains on my Top 10 list of favorite railroad reads. Rest in Peace, Bill.

My sympathies to the family and the railroad. I regret that, somewhat amazingly considering how much I was in Pennsylvania rail circles and Lancaster County (my mother hailed from Lancaster), I never managed to meet him.

As a side note, this leaves James Shuman as the last surviving NRHS charter member.

My condolences to the family and friends. He was an inspiration to the preservation movement.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Also, sadly, most of the original group of investors who boght the Strasburg in 1958 and turned it into what it is today, are no longer with us.

I believe, two more are still living, but as I understand it, those two sold their shares off many years ago and have not been associated with the railroad for many years.

As a simple foamer, I never had the chance to meet Mr. Moedinger. I know my dad once had a great conversation with him though. I can say, that even as a child, I loved reading his work....and it helped to pave the way for me to become a railfan.
