A story in the Roanoke Times (mentioned earlier) not only makes mention of RYPN but also details the restoration of one of the 4 lost engines, specifically #1134 which is coming along quite well. Already, a coat of black paint is being applied and the engine is being readied for movement to a museum in Portsmouth, VA called the Railroad Museum of Virginia. Not realizing there was another museum in VA I did a quick search and learned this museum is located on the opposite side of the state, a stone's throw from the Southern tip of Delaware, near Norfolk. As for the other 3 engines; #1151 is owned by the Roanoke Transportation Museum and is awaiting time and funds towards cosmetic restoration. This brings the steam engine count at the Museum up to 6. #1118 is owned by the NRHS (not sure which chapter). Members have been working for months on #1118, and eventually plan to exhibit it at the transportation museum in Roanoke. A fourth steam locomotive -- a small N&W switch engine -- was acquired by the builder of an Ohio restaurant attraction and moved there in 2008. /Mitch |

It may have ended up in switching service for the N&W, but when it was built in 1903, it was probably used in through freight service. This is the only W class Consolidation surviving. The other surviving N&W 2-8-0's are all class G. Les |

I thought the VMT had the 1151. I thnk it is madfab these engines are out of the scrapyard and getting the needed attention and get somewhere people can get up close and look at them and learn. What happens after all this is still the open question but there ya goes. |

Virginia Museum of Transportation existed previously as the Roanoke Transportation Museum. The Roanoke Chapter, NRHS traded former E.J. Lavino 0-6-0T No. 34 for the 1134, which will be cosmetically restored and remain in Roanoke. |

1134 is the one that's going to the Railroad Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth. The engine that the Roanoke Chapter NRHS got in exchange for the E.J. Lavino 34 was the 1118, which is to be restored as a "towable display". I don't believe that a future restoration to steam has been ruled out for 1118, she's apparently in better shape than anyone expected, but it's not going to happen until they have a place to run it and the cubic dollars needed to get her running. The 1151 went to the VMT. |

The 4-8-0's could not be your "mainliner" steam as they run at a lower speed. The M2 is plenty powerful for its size, find a good shortline/branchline it will; be a happy camper. |

Glad to see that a lot of progress is being made on these former Lost Engines. Hope to be in Roanoke next weekend, and possibly see them. BTW, what is Will Harris planning on doing with his new porter #34? Martin |
