The big 4-8-4 used to sit at the Tulsa Zoo, Oklahoma, as a display after being donated. It was moved to Owasso back in the 80's. In 2004 it was moved to Tulsa to be repainted, and now it's finally finished. Click the link for pictures.

Oh, man! Wouldn't you like to see that paint scheme, hauling a string of coaches?

For the record, the first three Frisco 4-8-4's (4500-4502) were built as oil-burners and given this special paint scheme to haul "The Meteor" passenger train between St. Louis and Tulsa. The SLSF generously preserved both 4500 and 4501. In addition to its first Northern (4500), the railroad also preserved the very last NEW steam locomotive added to its roster, 4-8-4 #4524. And it also saved Northern 4516. The St. Louis-San Fransisco Railway has disappeared into BNSF, but its name lives on through its generous locomotive donation program.

Thanks for the info Les. It is indeed a beautiful locomotive, and to be honest, never heard of it until last night.
