Simple question, how many steam locomotives in the USA are in service this summer?
I've lost count. thanks.

Pick up the July issue of Railfan & Railroad Magazine for a list of the steam locomotives in service this year.

In an article in Kalmbach's "Historic Trains Today," just published, Jim Wrinn puts the number at 175, while noting that the data was compiled several months ago and that number may have changed a bit.

That make "Steam" a pretty exclusive club.
