Man those numbers on the tender are hideous.They could have at least used the correct size and style of numbers |

Good thing too, it would've been odd seeing something so ATSF in Pennsylvania Dutch country. 475 seems much more "at home" in Lancaster County. |

Also, the AT&SF leased 2-10-4's to the PRR in 1956 due to a motive power shortage. Sante Fe on the Pennsylvania, you bet. |

Those 2-10-4's never ventured into the Keystone State after they were built by Baldwin, however. They spent their time on lease to the Pennsy working between Columbus and Sandusky, Ohio, I believe. |

This website has some interesting photos of the Santa Fe 2-10-4's in Columbus. http://www.columbusrailroads.com/prr%20santa%20fe.htm I think there was a thread not too long ago about the Pennsy's ingenious solution to turning them on the Columbus turntable which was too short. |

And just WHERE were you going to find good oil in coal country,or were you planning on hiring Paul Bunyan after you converted her back to coal? |

I had to look this locomotive up on steamlocomotive.com, because I had no idea where Bartlesville is. If anyone else needs help, it's in Oklahoma. This is the only 2-10-2 surviving from the Santa Fe. About a dozen others from other RRs are out there. |

Nice pic! thanks for posting it. My great uncle did hand fire the 900's over Raton Pass...in fact they were among the first locomotives we worked on. They usually had two firemen for the pull up Raton. Before he died I managed to get his time books and he fired the 940 several times before she went to the Gulf Lines later on in her career. She should be preserved,and perhaps one day,rebuilt. Strasburg would have been a good home for her,but not sure how she would have liked running backward 50% of the time. |
