June 05, I shot over to Oyster Bay, Long Island, to check in on the progress at Oyster Bay Rail Road Museum. These people are custodians of Long Island G5s, #35, and host of other historic LIRR pieces. What is significant here, is the site is located on what was the "last stand" for LI steam. The organization undertakes small bites, then completes the work before moving onto additional projects. Furthermore, they get the work done. While the turnout on this morning wasn't huge, "..a few good men..." can work wonders, especially as it was humid and in the 90's.

The G5s is being prepped for shipment to her rebuilder, in Alabama. Every part is being sorted, cleaned, and coated in cosmolene prior to shipment. IF you want specific information, please contact the Museum.



















Other restorations on site include several cabooses, two GE 25T shop switchers, and former New Haven FA1 cab 0402. This cab was displayed in LIRR colors at the New York World's Fair of 1964-65, as a photo op for children.
