Amist the WV Rails-WM734 fiasco, the Train Festival organizers have dropped a few hints for next years big festival somewhere in the midwest. Off of their Facebook page...: "We had planned on making an announcement here next week regarding Train Festival 2011. We have been working on this for several months now and are finalizing contracts with BNSF and the host city. The announcement will have to wait until we have a chance for another visit in couple weeks to wrap things up with the venue. We have dropped some hints here to keep you guessing! It will be July 28-31, 2011. Stay tuned!" Let the guessing game begin... but frankly, I can't stand the suspense! -Mike |

I have no idea what any of the hints are but, the Davenport, IA & Rock Island, IL looks like the perfect place to hold it. They've got Iowa Interstate, BNSF and ICE (which is owned by the CP). So you've got the possibilities of QJs, 261 and 2816. It also doesn't seem too far fetched to think 765 could get to Peoria on the TPW and to Rock Island on the Iowa Interstate. |

How did the TrainFestival 2010 do? I didn't hear of very many people going, and the few pictures I have seen didn't have very many people in them. Chris. |

Chris, I was there on the Saturday of the fest. It was never "crowded" but there seemed to be a steady flow in and out. The dinner train was sold out, I was told. That was my favorite part of the days activities. Nice train, decent food and excellent scenery. The question, I suppose, is not just how many attended but what the target number was and did they meet it. Even at a full sell-out, this was not something equal to Owosso in scope, but I doubt anyone expected it to be that size. All I can say is, we had a great time and I am looking forward to the midwest next year. Rob |

I'm down for IL, I wanted to go this year, but it was to far to drive, and too close to fly. Hard to believe that many steamers didn't draw a huge crowd. |
