WK&S, the Pennsylvania tourist railroad at Kempton, introduced its newest locomotive on Wednesday during a visit by an NRHS Convention bus trip. No. 734, a 1956 GE 65-tonner, handled a trip over the line, with photo runbys, for the 140 visitors. The locomotive enters service following an extensive restoration which included work on all systems. The striking gray and red paint scheme was designed by WK&S volunteers. The unit was built for AMEX-US Metals in Cateret, NJ, and last served Koppers Corp. in Muncy, Pa. The unit will enter service to supplement the line's other two diesels, 45-tonner no. 7258 and 70-ton Whitcomb no. 602, while the line's popular steam locomotive, Porter 0-6-0T no. 65, is out of service pending boiler repairs. Volunteers plan to begin restoration of 2-6-2 no. 4 soon. Here's a YouTube video of a photo runby at Wanamker station: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_90USJ5e5YI |

When looking through the various photo essays of Chris Guenzler's that ADM4 posted recently, I noticed in the photos for the WK&S, the running gear of a little 2-6-0 sitting on a track sans boiler. Anyone have any idea as to what this is from? Thanks. Les |

That running gear is for the aforementioned 2-6-2 4. http://www.jeff-z.com/wks/locoroster/4/index.html for more on the engine. |
