Question for owners of Insull-era South Shore cars with open windows.

How are the windows put together? If the window is cracked, what's required to get to it?

Is it just the usual style of wooden frame and 1/4" firring strip nailed in to capture the window? Or is something else going on...

I haven't spent time working on South Shore cars myself but I'm vaguely familiar with the ones at IRM. All of the South Shore open-window cars I'm aware of have brass window sash. They're two different styles (I guess the South Shore replaced originals with a different type) - one has a thick bottom rail, sometimes with a vent in it, and the other has a thinner bottom rail. An in-service photo at http://www.davesrailpix.com/cssb/htm/ss048.htm shows a car with mostly thicker bottom rail windows, but a thin one at the far right.
