The K4 restoration project has finally been completed.

Due to budget cutbacks, the project had to be scaled down quite a bit, and some alternative materials were used in the boiler work. The resulting project looks quite good though. (The photographer apparently doesn't know NYC from PRR)

Local experts have expressed concern that firing up the engine could lead to irreversible damage to the "boiler" (and cab, and drivers, and...)

I don't want to get picky here, but.......

Reminds me of the time a buddy built a " wood " stove - from scrap lumber, only one fire, but it was a dandy !

And then there was the small town fire company that converted a used gasoline tanker into a pumper, their first fire was a doosie !

I believe that that was the same fire company whose motto was:
"We have never lost a basement yet !"

Someone has a LOT of time on their hands to construct that. Quite nice though. On the other hand, Bob mentioned in the original post that the K-4 restoration project had been completed and did NOT say which one exactly! If you look at the picture here, the pilot is clearly a Pre-War product while the infamous 1361 is a Post-War child.
Pre war K-4's had slatted pilots while the Post War types had a solid cast pilot with the drop coupler.

Okay Ill stop now.

Sadly, I am unable to post pictures I took of the K4s at Steamtown, two weeks ago, without having the post subject to locking or elimination. Moderators: Please let me know if I may share those pictures. I'll tell you in advance, it's not pretty.

hadda look up the steamtown K4, dunno what the ordeal is but hope everything keeps the engine safely stored.
