Church Street Station, Orlando, FL This article doesn't directly address the train, but it will give you a good hint. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/os-cfb-kassab-church-street-06142010-20100613,0,5729002.column Steve |

Well, since I live in Orlando, I'll fill ya'll in.... Church street station was quite an attraction... until disney and universal built their own versions and the owners at church street failed to change with the times. In the last 4 years or so, there has been a big push to bring commuter trains thru orlando on the former ACL mainline there, part of said plan involves using the old station- that happens to have a trainset sitting on the old house track..... so, now you have an 0-6-0 and three passenger cars that need a new home. unfortunately, they are all in bad shape, with extensive rot and vandal damage. consist is: #3749 ex SLSF switcher, I've been told that , while it could be rebuilt, it will probably need a new boiler... EX-UP dome car #7009?- only car there on rollers, has lots of rot and is pretty well gutted.... Possibly EX-Southern heavy weight diner car- bad shape- literally has holes in the floor you can crawl thru, plain journals, gutted, has some of the kitchen still. Unknown? section loungey type car with a platform end.... same- rotten, plain bearings, gutted.... theyve been periodcally homes for local crack heads... they do have potential- if you have lots of money... then theres the other problems: They're on a panel track, not connected to the mainline, but right next to it.... the CSX main that sees 20 or so trains a day and are in the middle of downtown orlando, with little room to crane them out, much less truck them anywhere.... The asking price is, in my opinion, a bit high.....by now, they may have decided to give them away..... Anyway, while not impossible, it will be difficult and expensive to move them and they're basically worthless.....to most people. |

For the record, number 3749 was actually the very last Frisco steam locomotive in regular service. She was leased for use at a prison in Alabama where she remained in service until the fall of 1956, more than 4 years after the SLSF made their last regular steam run. A nice looking little 0-6-0, she probably would be a good engine for a small tourist or museum operation, providing she could be restored to service. Les |
