I just thought this article might be of interest, in view of the many railroad history and preservation related organizations that frequently repost newspaper articles on subjects relating to passenger rail operations:

you reposted that article...<BANNED>

really, if you put up links directing to the news sites, I don't see why theres an arguement, newspapers etc rely on advertisers.

Doing business just suing the daylights out of people tho isn't a kind of business I would be doing, good bad or ugly, to me it just smells.

The copyright laws have certain fair use about them and thats why libraries have copy machines. If your going in with sueing guns ablaze you better have good reason. Not really my idea of doing business, I'd rather flip burgers, and I'm vegetarian.

While many libraries have copy machines for public use, most also display signs warning of copyright infringement. So do the machines at most copy centers. "Fair use" doesn't include making multiple copies of the same item for further distribution. In fact, there is a Copyright Clearance Center that collects royalties for distribution to copyright owners.

You miss the point of the posted article. I have on occasion, from a search, found the same article text on separate sites. This refers to individuals or sites that copy the text of an article and repost it as their own, without payment or attribution.

The links we post here are not infringement, because each links to the original source and its associated advertising. These links are no different than the search results from Google.

If you copied the text and made a flyer to hand out to your museum visitors, that would be infringement, but the severity of the infringement, realistically, would be a function of the volume and whether the reprint contained the whole source including advertising.
