I've got some vacation time coming up from Aug 7th through the 15th. I'd like to see some nice museums or get on an excursion. My own search for an excursion anywhere in the USA didn't find much. Does anybody know of a rail excursion or have a suggestion? Brian |

If you've never been to the WW&F in Maine, the Annual Picnic is August 14 & 15th. Lots of special trains and events. Check out: http://www.wwfry.org/ |

Consider visiting the East Broad Top during our Civil War Weekend and Community Appreciation Day on August 14th. ================== Join Union and Confederate troops as they set up camp in Rockhill Furnace to reenact life during our great Civil War. We are expecting our biggest invasion ever! After riding the train, you are invited to walk through the civil war camps and see how the soldiers and their wives had to live during one of America's most trying times. August 14th ONLY, adult fares for regular coach seating will be $10.00, and child $8.00. Upgrades required for caboose tickets. Our steam powered train will operate to Colegate Grove and return at 11:00AM, 12:30PM, 2:00PM, 4:00PM, 6:00PM and a 7:30PM dinner train. The menu for the dinner train will be Roasted chicken, baked lasagna, baked swiss steak, mashed potatoes, browned potatoes, green beans, baby carrots, broccoli salad, cole slaw, pickled eggs and beets, fruit salad and assorted desserts and beverages. Dinner train price is $35.00. The East Broad Top Railroad is the oldest operating narrow gauge railroad in the country. To celebrate our 50th anniversary as tourist hauling railroad, the US Postal Service will be providing a special cancellation. This pictorial postmark will feature a sketch of the East Broad Top steam engine designed by local artist Fred McClain. The event will take place on Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 10:00AM until 2:00PM and the East Broad Top Railroad station, 421 Meadow Street, in Rockhill Furnace, PA, 17249. To receive the postmark, items must bear non-cancelled postage at the applicable first class rate. For those who cannot attend the event, the postmark may also be obtained by mail. Requests must be postmarked no later than thirty (30) days following the event. Simply send the item to be cancelled undercover and bearing non-cancelled first class postage to the following address: Postmaster 444 Meadow Street Rockhill Furnace, PA 17249 The item will be postmarked and returned to you in a protective envelope at no charge. |

If the south should suit you better, the Three Rivers Rambler will be having a Railfan Day Aug. 14th. Provided they have 154 operational by then. |
