Recent trip to Mars Hill, Maine, revealed this gem, sitting on Route 1, just outside of town. She's in very good shape, and being used as a wood shop at the present. The interior appears intact. She's "For Sale by Owner", but a knock at the door did not find the owner at home. I have an address if somebody is sincerely interested.
The caboose sits on her original trucks, on rail, with couplers.

So how much were they asking? The wood sides actually look pretty good.

That is a great looking caboose. It could find a nice home at Downeast Scenic, or maybe the Brooks Preservation group.
Can someone tell me if this former interurban locomotive turned snowplow lasted to the end of the AVR and was it then saved?

Overall, I'd say she's in great shape. As I said, there was nobody at home when I stopped. Mars Hill is way up north, I mean close to Presque Isle. Unfortunately, I can't just run up there to find out. I can give you a specific address if you want to chase the owner down on the phone.

One interurban car of theirs is preserved at the Seaside Trolley Museum.

According to the PNAERC two interurban combines and a box motor from the AVR survive at Seashore. I hope they are interested in this caboose now as well. I heard that several freight cars were saved at the time of abandonment and are now located with the Heislers recently discussed in Vermont. It would be a loss if the double ended plow went to scrap.
