What a shame! One of these units was operable in the 1990s. Granted, the units are land-locked, but still, what a shame.

The units could at the very least have been a good parts supply to SMS or other Baldwin operators.

What about the 12 (aka Southern 1643)? Who owns the property and equipment? There used to be a fellow on RYPN who seemed to have at least some inkling of what was going on up there.

Just the other day I chatted with the president of a little choo choo club that swears he met the elder family member at a family reunion and he offered him the 12 for free. He has no resources to get it out of there. Somebody needs to figure out what is going on.

I would take this and any story of the 12 being offered to anyone with a grain of salt. Many people have approached the family about the engine and the line is always the same, "not for sale."

No one really quite knows why the family feels this way either. Some speculate it means a lot to the family and others say they have an unrealistic price for the engine. I wouldn't expect 12 to go anywhere in the foreseeable future.

I think the person with some knowledge of M&NF is a Mr. J.D. Johnson, who used to post here. IIRC, he was giving M&NF lectures not long ago. Paging Mr. Johnson....

Everyone,

This is a heartbreaking situation for me as the amount of effort that was placed into bringing back the M&NF in the 90's by a great group of folks that are too many to name here.

I am reminding myself that I have memories, photos, and stories that would not have been possible with out the effort mentioned above.

I am reluctant to post any more at this time.

1202 is now history and 1201 is to be cut up today.

Mr. Johnson,

Very sorry to hear the news-we share your sense of loss. And thank you for your efforts to preserve this history.
