What a coincidence! Just before I logged into RYPN, I was on the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway site, looking at photos of the "other" 1225--the British Columbia Electric Ry interurban. It's looking great after almost five years of work by the FVRHS volunteers. 1225 has gone from "somewhere on the priority list" at Orange Empire to the "Star of the Show" north of the border. I've been following this project closely, having been part of the OERM crew that helped load it for its "homecoming". May I suggest that future postings on anything numbered 1225 include reporting marks?

While we're getting confused with preserved equipment with the number 1225, let's not forget about Cleveland Railway 1225 at the Northern Ohio Railway Museum.

pm 1225 was actually getting close to a boiler rehab, which is was the why of the trainfest to help finance it.

Thanks, for your kind words, Bob. The body is just about complete, just some door latches to put on and a few minor touch-ups. Thursday, Aug 5th is the 5 yr anniversary date and the volunteer hours are closing in on 17 000.
All 5 motors (we had an extra), and the compressor are now finished and the trucks are well on there way to complete rehabilitation. Watch for exciting news on our web page as we finalize a fundraising trip from New Westminster to Chilliwack on the old BCER route. Unfortunately, BCER 1225 will not go as we will not have had time for its "sea trials".

The firebox is looking good, obvious problems would really show just looking right at the metal. Problems would have showed up already because everything is under pressure. Don't see it. Good luck on the ultrasounds, my initial opinion, looks great.

BTW, if your in the boiler, take a hammer and hit the staybolts, Joe Karol did this, if they "ring" its in good shape, if you get any "thuds" needs a closer look. Thats the low tech check but high tech tools were not so available in the steam days like Ultrasound.

Joe Karol was a real Steam shopman on the Nickel Pate and helped with 765 's initial restoration, 765's.."expert". I learned. 8-D

Speaking of that (and to shamelessly threadjack further): How many museums have equipment with the same number as a famous steamer? Western Railway Museum has a 1218, Ohio Railway Museum has a 4449...

Seriously though, support 1225. Trainfest did well for them, but there's still a financial shortfall toward getting their work done. Michigan (and arguably West Virginia) remain a major hope for mainline steam, because they have a decently complete network of mainlines not controlled by the Class I's. You can get all over the lower peninsula on shortlines and regionals.

And to shamelessly unhijack the thread, there was an article in our local newspaper yesterday about PM1225's ongoing rebuild. We're making steady progress, but, my God, this Michigan economy. . . .

Thanks for the article Fred. When will the ultrasound take place?

The firebox, siphons and combustion chamber have already been gridded and they are almost done ultrasounding these areas. As soon as the rest of the tubes are out of the boiler and the jacketing and appliances are removed, we'll grid the boiler shell and do that. We're hoping to have all the ultrasounding done by October.

The latest on Pere Marquette 1225 is that all of the flues are now pop out so testing can begin.
