More wonderful things come to light, today chipping away at the only original door that we have, and wow look at this confirmation of the builder ! These days make everything worth while.

That is really neat.

Congrats on taking such care to preserve something of that significance. Obviously it took some patience removing the paint to uncover that. Details on how you did that?

Hi Tom,
This is going to sound really bad........ we just hit the paint with a small hammer to crack the edges and chip it off with a scraper, every layer comes off in one go straight back to the varnish, good old railroad painters who didnt have time to rub the varnish down before painting in 1922 !!!
Its very very satisfying. Anyone have a door lock that might fit this?
