A couple of days ago when sifting through the 123 years of soot filling our clerestory window recesses we found a piece of paper wrapped up with a leather strap, on careful examination under a magnifying glass and after opening the covers we find to our astonishment that its a ticket to the 1909 Paris Airshow, the first airshow in Paris !!! Who was at this show demonstrating their aeroplanes.....Orville and Wilbur Wright with the Wright flyer, Louis Bleriot and his record breaking Channel crossing monoplane from two months before and many others.......this breathes life and excitement into our project like nothing else, the motto....be careful before you discard anything. Mike - Nice find! You might check out how rare this ticket might be. Although it would be nice to keep it as an artifact, it might provide you with some funds for the continued restoration of car 57. Probably too much to hope for, but it might be worth looking in to. In the meantime, keep up the great work. Les |

That's incredible, Mike. I can just imagine the chills running down your spine when you realised what you'd found. Half your luck. The nearest I've come to with our car is a 1943 threepence! A few months ago, I was finishing off the floor of the Ladies' Lavatory, prior to re-sheeting it with lead. This car had been turned into a travelling dental clinic in 1935 and they must have laid sheets of newspaper over the floorboards before covering them with lino. I could see it was newspaper, but it was far too dirty to read any detail. Never mind.... Cheers, Bob |
