Post subject:  Another museum 0-6-0

In the recent "Wabash steam locomotive cosmetic restoration" thread, Kelly Lynch of the Ft. Wayne Railroad Historical Society posted an extremely nice photo of Wabash 0-6-0 #534 when it was in service as Lake Erie & Ft. Wayne Railroad #1. Kelly also posted a photo of the 0-6-0 in the FtWRHS's shop there in New Haven, Indiana showing the way the locomotive now looked. Those two photos got me to wondering about another railroads 0-6-0 that is at a museum with not much recent information about it. The locomotive is former Baltimore & Ohio 0-6-0 #1190 (ex-#390) that is at the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum in Bellevue, Ohio. When I was last at that museum a few years ago, the engine was sitting outside in a "dismantled" condition. The 1190 is one of the few B&O steam locomotives existing that is not in the B&O Museum in Baltimore. I also believe that she is the only surviving steam engine from the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh where she was built as #152 by the Brooks plant of ALCO in 1904. Anyone have any information on the old girl?

I checked out the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum website and found out that they actually had a photo of the B&O 0-6-0:

This is the way I remember her from my visit of a few years ago. Partly dismantled (as shown) and shoved on the farthest track on the museum grounds up against a bumper. BUT, I don't know if this photo is the way she appears today. Or if the museum has any plans to restore her, or has in fact worked on her since the photo was taken.

Les, Unfortunately the 0-6-0 still looks the same today.I pass by it on trains a few times each week. The badly rusted out tender body wich is a slopeback type sits up on blocking over behind the museums restoration building just west of the main museum on the north side where it has also been sitting for years.I'm not sure where the tender trucks are or the loco's cab as i have never seen them outside anywhere when passing by.

Fritz -

Thanks for the info. Seems a very sad state of affairs. The engine deserves better.
