All, for nearly five years, restorer and WW&F Ry Museum member Leon Weeks, has immersed himself in the design and construction of a reproduction 2-foot gauge Model T Railcar. Using the front-end and drive train from an authentic 1923 Ford, the railcar was recently unveiled at the museum's Annual Picnic.

I love the work that Mr. Weeks did and enjoyed seeing the car in action. But I wonder why folks who make these videos seem to think it's necessary to provide background music? I would have enjoyed the "clickity-clack" and the blowing of the horn for the crossings by themselves without the musical distraction. I guess I am just being an old "fuddy-duddy". Sorry.

Thanks for your comments. Maybe you'll someday put out the video without the music and see what folks prefer. I realize that wind noise can be a pain. Maybe music is the only alternative.

While I understand the need to cover the wind noise, I also agree it would be nice to hear the sounds of the engine & horn, etc. However, under the circumstances, I think Stephen is right - the music is fine and does not detract like some other sound tracks I have heard!

This clip is up to Stephen's usual high standards. He's a professional, after all. I certainly think the music is an appropriate alternative to the rattle and roar of wind, so common in many YouTube vids!

Let me remind readers that the WW&F's Fall Work Weekend is coming up in a month on the Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 8-11. There will be plenty of hard work, great food, fellowship and just plain fun for all. The main project is replacing about 800 feet of rail on the main line. Other projects include painting, work on no. 9 in the shop, brush cutting, and probably other things. All are welcome to attend. You don't have to be a member, either.

Wonderful video and wonderful project. As a former model T owner and driver, I have some questions which the video doesn't answer. The service brake on the model T was a single band working against a drum in the planetary transmission. The pedal for it was in the same place as in a more modern car. There was also an emergency brake with a lever to the left of the driver's left leg. It worked on small drums on the rear wheels. In the video, I could see an auxiliary brake lever painted red at the driver's left hand, but couldn't see either brake drums or shoes front or rear. Relying on the transmission brake alone doesn't sound likely. Can anyone fill me in?

Beautiful video, Stephen! First class as always. And put me on the "I like the music" list. I often have a favorite tune running through my head when I'm doing something fun with trains or planes. It sure looks like you guys were having a lot of fun with the new railcar.

Hopefully, I can make it up to Alna for at least part of the Columbus Day weekend!
