There were some new pictures just posted on Trainorders.com. It looks like the ditch lights and headlights have been broken recently, and the cab windows may be missing as well. The engine is kept in a remote and completely unsecured place. I wonder if the bell and whistle will disappear next.

The post also says Tom Payne is now operating some shortline near Seattle. Anyone have any details?

Chris.

It's not on the spur in Google satellite view, but here's a distant street view:

Does anyone know where that aux tender comes from?

When will somebody bring her back home, and fix her up for service in coal country?

I thought it was ex-GTW, and purchased in the St. Thomas, ON area before moving west, but a recent poster says it is ex-GN. Does anyone know?

I think it bears a resemblence to the Tenders used on GTW's U-1-c class Mountains, however after comparing photos of the aux tender and GTW 6039's tender, there are a few differences, so I'm not 100% certain. However its possible this aux tender could have been heavily rebuilt and modified over the years, which would then account for all the subtle differences that I see.

Perhaps someone can investigate the GN angle?

The price to repair 2102 on the Reading & Northern would be cheaper than the price to acquire, ship, and rebuild this thing............ I'm guessing.........

When someone has
-The Money
-A Place To Run
-A big enough population base to make it financially feasible.
-The knowledge base to make it happen.

Oh wait, that was a rhetorical question....

The Aux Tender was reported to be a former Tender from a Great Northern 2-8-8-2 locomotive. Plus I seem to recall that GN was also cast into the truck frames.

Regarding the 2100... You want it back on the East Coast? Get your checkbook out, she's for sale. (Not for sale through Tom Payne though..)

Well it sounds like it most be over $300,000. Whats the going rate for a 4-8-4 these days? $225,000ish? Plus shipping. That's a lot for anyone/group to swallow.

Chris.

It is definitely a Great Northern tender purchased by Tom Payne from BC Rail.

That's interesting about the aux. tender. I think he had another aux. tender while the 2100 was at St. Thomas, ON, and I never saw any reports about it going west, so I presume it is still there.
