| Post subject: | RS-2 can you take a Main Gen Belt and Convert to a Main Gen |
I am a member the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum (dba San Diego Railroad Museum). We have a RS-2 # 2098 http://www.psrm.org/roster/diesel/d-2098/index.html The 244 Engine 1500 HP is to replace becauce 12 year ago, we overheat block. The is 244 Engine 1600 HP from a MRS-1 (RSX-4). The second in the Main Gen and the Amplidyne Exciter on top of the Main Gen. The Main Gen has a 50,000 Ohm ground in the Armature an the Amplidyne has a bad bear. The Main Gen GT-564-B (Belt drive in the old system). The Auxiliary Generator 5GY24A2 12 KW 75 Volt (Belt drive in the old system). The Amplidyne Exciter 5AM807A3 (Belt drive in the old system). Replace with: The Main Gen 5GT581A1 (Gear drive). The Auxiliary Generator 5GY27A3 (Gear drive). The Ampidyne Exciter 5AM808A3 (Gear drive). The electrical is the same. But the distant from a from the cab wall an the 5GY27A3 an 5AM808A3 to the car body in the unit to allow the fit ? Who know the answer? The distant from the Engine were tie to Main Gen and the back wall of the RS-2. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/manual/alco-em-01.pdf http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/manual/alco-em-03.pdf http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/manual/alco-em-04.pdf http://prr.railfan.net/diagrams/PRRdiag ... &sz=sm&fr= http://prr.railfan.net/diagrams/PRRdiag ... e&sz=sm&fr http://prr.railfan.net/diagrams/Diesels/as-15m.pdf http://prr.railfan.net/diagrams/Diesels ... as-16m.pdf Thank you Stan Paulsen |
