All,

Follow the link above to my photos from the WW&F's annual picnic in Alna, Maine held on the weekend of August 14-15. If you think 3-foot gauge is narrow, it probably just means you haven’t seen 2-foot gauge yet.

On that Saturday I had the great pleasure and experience of being one-on-one with Julius Stuck, a 92-year young volunteer from Cape Cod ; the first ten images are of him in his customary role as "Station Agent". A few weeks earlier as a birthday present I received an antique Hamilton railroad pocket watch, I had it with me and used it as a prop when photographing Julius. I swear at some point in his life he was a model; a pure natural in front of the camera lens. Just him and I in the Alna Center station for a solid two hours, time so well spent, just sat back and let him talk; hung on his every word. Took me back to a better, vanished time.

To those who have not yet visited the WW&F, I very strongly suggest it. The spirit, will, drive, and enthusiasm of the active volunteers up in Alna blows me away each and every time I visit, I am already looking forward to the Victorian Christmas in mid December.

Click on "Slideshow" at the top right of the screen.

Enjoy,
Matthew
