Frisco #4018 getting ready for new paint a Sloss Furnace NHS. I would have liked to seen it go to HODRRM, but glad its out of the city's hands.

Hmmm. One to two weeks to a paint job. Kinda scary. Hope they ditch the whitewalls and letter her correctly.
Is Historic Machinery still involved with it?

This sounds an awful lot like a paint over the rust paint job. In fact if you compare what they are about to do to the Baldwin 4-4-660 they have the paint will look bad. Don't bet money on it being correct.

Also, the City of Birmingham still owns the locomotive. Sloss Furnace is city property and the locomotive is on display there. 4018 however is not part of the Sloss collection. It just happens to reside there. The City had nowhere else to put it when it had to be moved.

When you have a million square foot of steel to take care of, you can't be too picky as to the paint jobs.

Its still better than no paint job.

4018 will be receiving a quick paint job. Historic Machinery Services role is the donation of time and some cash for paint. The work is being done by staff at Sloss Furnaces. We have furnished a proposal for the repair, restoration, and conservation of the 4018, when money is secured that work will commence. Funding is also sought for the design and erection of a shelter over the loco.

Don, would you contact off list? I have lost your e-mail...

Robert,
You efforts and generousity are certianly appreciated. Anything is better than seeing her rot away at the fair grounds. You have to start somewhere. Hopefully, one day she'll be restored to her former glory.
