I just got home from Nashville, Tennessee where I rode an excursion by the Tennessee Central Railway Museum from Nashville to Monteray for the first time. The excursion was about 11 hours long and was quite enjoyable other than an annoying passenger who became rather belligerent with several other passengers on the ex-Santa Fe coach I was traveling in. Coach 4711 had plenty of leg room and the interior was well-maintained and cleaned. Granted, I spent a significant portion of the trip in the vestibule but the seat was very comfortable and my car hosts Don and Ernest were very friendly and hospitable. I will say this excursion had one of the oddest lash-ups of diesel power I have ever ridden behind. Ex-New Georgia Railroad, nee New York Central EMD E8 6902 Ex-B&LE EMD F7B 719B Ex-B&LE EMD F7B 715B Nashville & Eastern GE B-40-8 8531. All four locomotives as far as I could tell were powered and in-service throughout the day as they pulled the train on the 216 mile roundtrip. The passenger train was painted to match including the smooth-side non corrugated passenger cars. The chartered orange ex-IC caboose was the only thing that detracted from the train's appearance (apart from the GE lashed up with the 3 EMD locomotives). I had a wonderful time and want to commend the Tennessee Central for putting on a well-run operation. |
