More fiddling around on YouTube. . .

Fontaine Fox's "Toonerville Trolley" was briefly adapted to animated film in the 1930s. As far as I know, these may be the only adaptations made, produced by a studio that apparently closed at about this time (one of the commentators suggested one of these shorts was the very last production). Besides being delightful in their own rights, these shorts also illustrate how railroads (and trolleys) were part of life, of the landscape, of the public conciousness of that time.

This one could have been a part of Operation Lifesaver if Operation Lifesaver had been around in the 1930s.

This is horrible, I know, but it's the only version I could find of it.

I've had this up before; it's Walt Disney's "The Brave Engineer," included here (along with "Out of Scale") to have at least a somewhat complete collection of animated shorts.

Here's another one. A promotional piece for Timken Roller bearings.

I have to say that's pretty cool. How did you find it, or know about it to look for it?

Here we have some live-action shorts. Again, trains are part of the landscape, even in films promoting an automobile company (and produced by the famous Jam Handy studio!)

Not sure what to make of this film that seems to advocate driving on railroad tracks--in this case, the Florida East Coast's Key West Line, while it was in service!

Not a promotion, more like home movies, are these scenes from Dallas, Texas, in 1953.

Educational film; rail footage at 2:50 and 4:20, more at 4:59, trolleys at 5:44, el at 5:53, Grand Central at 6:08:

Enjoy.
