That's good to hear! The air comp valve should be a minor fix or replacement to get that working again, sounds like there's no major problems with the engine otherwise.

Depends. The valve could be a stuck check valve which is easy - or a worn out top head and main valve assembly in its entirety. If the pump is running but making no air, probably check valve which is my hopeful wish. Best and great news.

Does this mean that the 428 almost ready to run? If not how much more work is needed?

I do not speak for them.

1630 is almost ready to run once this present matter is fixed and nothing else crops up which it well may since the engine hasn't run in about 5 years. Cold weather closing in may prevent that until next year. Then again...who knows?

428 is nowhere near ready to run. Boiler work is pretty much done but the running gear will need attention. Could be years away, depending on what is needed.
