Thanks for the Ogden museum update. Though I live less than 50 miles away, I haven't been by for a while. The odd thing is that until recently, the locomotives on display at the museum were protected by a substantial fence. The plaza area was face-lifted last year, I think, and the fence was removed. While the museum outdoor display area seems more inviting without it, I wonder at the wisdom of leaving the displays unprotected since it's a very rough area with a large homeless population. I visited #833 many times when it was on display in Pioneer Park in nearby Salt Lake City, and the many of the missing items you mentioned- specifically the front marker lamp, number plate shield, and most of the cab fittings have been missing since at least 1985 when I took extensive photos of it. Sadly, she suffered significant damage in the mid-'90s when, prior to donation to the Ogden museum, an asbestos abatement contractor butchered the boiler jacket and many appliance fittings & lines. She was fenced, but not covered in SLC-- now she's covered but not fenced. |
