This is hilarious since they were reportedly just driven off, not loaded onto lowboys although such a transfer could have been done a short distance away.

Somebody's got to have seen where they went, you just don't hide equipment that size that easily. Even more intriguing is that he went out onto another railroad with it, he must have (or atleast hoping he did) have knowledge that no other train would be running on that other line. Maybe just follow the tracks? (pun intended)

This reminds me of a time when a kid stole a trolley bus in Philadelphia.

This must have been an inside job of some kind. This museum is in the MIDDLE of Berlin, I was there almost two years ago, it's a great museum. This would be like someone showing up at the B&O museum to move equipment, opening the switch to the CSX Mt. Clare branch and taking the stuff away through Baltimore Terminal. A BUNCH of signals would have to be crossed to do this. I've got to believe that either someone working for a connecting rail line was in on this, or they took it a short distance away from the museum and trucked it away from there.

an old story from a trains article or Railroad told the story of some teenager "stealing" a locomotive from the yard and running it a while. They caught the guy and took him to court claiming he stole the engine, but the judge disagreed, the engine never left the property!


Thats crazy about these engines here, how are you going to hide them?

Some here may recall a tourist line here in Ohio recently had two teenagers let themselves into the enginehouse, open the door, fire up the Geep and they headed up the mainline. The constant blowing of the horn at the crossings gave them away as he had been around RR operations to know he should blow the horn. Mind you, this was all taking place at midnight or 1AM and the cops became a little wary of the horns blowing when they never run that late at night.

It sounds like the plan was to make a short equipment move to a depot museum somewhere nearby. Therefore the rail network would have been expecting it and wouldn't have freaked out when it showed up on the signaling system.

Somebody just pulled the old "Why yes, I'm Mr. Soandso" and took off with them. Appearently the germans are more trusting than we are.

My only question is just where are you going to hide them??
