After 10 weeks the Car 57 roof work was completed last week, we used and this is a trail of a new product, 'through the roof' tube silicone to seal all the nail holes and then 11 gallons of brushable silicone to cover the entire top and lower deck roofs, we will see how it fares if it looks ok next spring then wwe will paint the entire roof as well.
Sadly all our Poplar clerestory screens are life expired and only the centre panels with the order numbers and overhaul marks will be salvageable, we have had 16 new screens made in ash and these will have glass installed on the outside instead of brass screen to protect the car from the weather.
The centre pieces of the original screens are available for purchase they have the 1452 lot number stamped on them and the screen number and are still in original Pullman green paint on the inside. We ask for a donation of $40 for these unique pieces.

You're doing a nice job with that car Mike. There's one question that intrigues me, you're mentioning painting the roof but I'm wondering what paint will stick to silicone? What does the silicone sealer say about painting/covering over it?

Well thats a good question but the sealant states that it is designed to be overpainted by anything......so next year we will find out, dont fancy peeling it all off!

Great work, Mike and Co. When I see the conditions you blokes work under, I'm so pleased my little baby's under cover. Life's so much easier.
Cheers, Bob
