A friend "in the know" was at the Meadowlands Maint. Complex on NJ Transit last week and said that #614 has her rods off and is all blocked up and ready to be towed to the Reading & Northern. That's not too wild an idea since it has been speculated by us on RYPN for months. As he put it, the deal with the R&N is a "lease." Does that mean the #614 parties are leasing track to store her on? Or she being leased to the R&N to run? Rob PS: I can say that the other rumor is false: her tender trucks are NOT going to be used on the PA restoration project, nor will she be backdated as a Winas Camel for the B&O fair next year. And I so looked forward to seeing a center cab on a Greenbriar. I am wondering, of course, if the C&O is going to use 614 at all in the steam festivities in the next year. How will we know if there are plans for this? Now, CSX could decide to plow several million dollars into the B&O Museum and simply restore all their steam locos to operable status. I imagine the jealousy it engenders with Norfolk Southern would require a similar gesture for an equal number of locomotives. Then maybe we can have drag races (coal drags) between C&O #1604 and N&W #1218. Or would such a thing be wasteful and useless? glueck@saturn.caps.maine.edu |
