Does anyone have a HT Stoker manual, parts lists, or service info? Either scanned or be willing to let me borrow so I can scan them? I am the project manager for A&WP 290 and need info on the stoker. And before a rumor starts - at this point we are working on a cosmetic restoration. We will however be doing UT measurements of the boiler. The boiler is almost totally stripped for this process. The ultimate goal is to get the boiler blasted and painted. I would also welcome any comments on what experiences others have had using any alternative to sand blasting. I do not want to introduce any sand into the running gear. I have heard of baking soda and dry ice. Pros, cons, experiences? Thanks, Dale |

It is possible to blast the boiler using recycled glass ( sand is illegal in most states for open air blasting due to the silica content) without introducing grit into the machinery. This can be accomplished using 6 or 8mil plastic sheeting, spray adhesive and duct tape. I did the same which you desire on an operational locomotive this year...no problems at all. We also used recycled glass on 6167, it was called Greenblast. We used soda for the running gear. |
