Anybody know what the "new" diesel at Strasburg is doing? Not sure of the type sorry! Its a 6-axle type diesel and parked next to the shop.

Steve

I believe that is a Smithsonian-owned RS-1 adapted for military service during WWII. Was stored at the RR museum of PA for years. I know the Railroad museum was talking about getting "outside" equipment off the property for some time now.

I believe that is the former US Army 8011, and plans have been in the works for some time to move it to the Transportation Museum at Fort Eustis, VA, for display as one of the locomotives used by Army railroaders in Iran during WW II to ship supplies to the Soviets.

Yes, its the RSD-1 formerly at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Was pulled out the last week of October.
