We have an air driven spike driver. Does someone make or could an electric spike driver be made? Anyone have any experience using one? Thanks. Jim |

Jim, I'm not aware of an electric powered spiking gun. Air or hydraulic is what we are using here at RailWorks Track Services. Is your air-powered spiking hammer worn out or just plain broken? Rob Gardner |

A friend once rented an electric shovel to ditch through hard clay in his unfinished basement to run a new sewer line. I was conveniently away that weekend and not only avoided shoveling, but missed seeing it work. He got the job done, so i'm assuming it had merit. Perhaps an electric shovel with the head replaced with a punch about 2" in diameter would serve as a spike maul? dave |

While we use the air-powered spiking guns at RMNE/NAUG, a local track contractor has apparently had some success with a Bosch electric paving breaker with a flat driver end to drive track spikes. I think he may have made up the driving end himself, out of a blank punch. I'm sure any brand of the heavy electric paving breakers would work. Howard P. |

We use an IR jack hammer with a chisel ground down and hollowed out. So why not an electric jack hammer with a similar hollowed out chisel? Later! Mr. Ed |
