CNJ 113 steam test today

CNJ 113 was successfully fired up to 100 lbs. pressure today. We raised the pressure very slowly and were happy to reach this milestone. Once up to that pressure we serenaded the neighorhood with whistle and bell "music". The clean burning anthracite was just that, although a little difficult to get used to firing.

There is much more to go to get her completely together and running but she is "alive" again.

Mitch,

There were some people there possibly recording and taking photos, but I was so busy with some firing and solving some drafting problems that I didn't even take pictures. There may eventually be something on youtube. This went unannounced but when we started blowing the whistle, the obvious happened. Firing with anthracite is a new experience with little or no smoke.

There are no plans at all concerning what is to be done with #113. We are not trying to be curt or secretive. This is the same answer we gave to the Federal inspectors during the hydro test a few months ago. All we wish to do is get the locomotive running and bug free of which I'm sure there will be some. Then we will start some sort of discussions with interested parties.

Congratulations on the mile marker! This is truly a historic event.

For the record there are a lot of people that would like to see this locomotive come over to steamtown to help them out with there locomotive shortage while they finish their 0-6-0. Personally I would like to see her come over to New Jersey but I doubt that would happen any time soon.

Congratulations to all the volunteers who have worked so hard on Project 113. These folks have worked without the benefit of any type of shop to pull off an amazing restoration of a locomotive that had been cannibalized of many of its original parts. Only with tremendous dedication have they reached this milestone. Good luck with the rest of the restoration.

This is great. Congrats to all involved. I remember stopping by to see the 113 years ago (I'm originally from Schuylkill Co, PA) and hearing there were plans to rebuild her and thinking "yeah, right." Never been so happy to be proven wrong. :)
