First post! I was recommended this site by a member of the Railroad museum of Long Island and it is a great resource.

Anyway I recently purchased three RR blankets at auction paying on average $100. I think that this is a good deal. One blanket is tan and chocolate with a kind of mating worms (PC logo) edging. It has CMSTP&P on the top half of the blanket with a small 39 under it.
The other one is a Pullman with the salmon color and the circle pullman logo and a small 4 under it.
The last one is also salmon but it has the Circle Great Northern Logo on it but nothing other than that. The pullman and the GN has a tag from a North Star company.There are only 2 very small holes on the Milw blanket and no spots on the others.

Can any one tell me any thing about these blankets such as when they were made and how much there worth? Also any websites dealing with things like these are appreciated.

I can speak to the second blanket you mentioned. That's a Pullman "Cedar" blanket, of the sort used on lightweight Pullman sleeping cars from 1936 to the end of Pullman service in 1970. That "4" indicates a 1939 manufacture date, and North Star Woolen Mills is one of the most commonly noted manufacturers. Literally hundreds of companies made the hundreds of thousands of blankets used by Pullman over the years.

Most of the Pullman blankets you'll come across are greatly shrunken from their original size, which is a good indicator of their level of use over the years. Find one that's 66" by 96" and you have one that's in brand-new condition. Most others have shrunk 18-20% from use and washing.

An excellent feature describing the blankets used by Pullman was published in the Summer 2008 issue of Classic Trains magazine.

There were other private railroad variants,which seem to be what your other two blankets are. I'll defer to others in the group who might know more about those.

Hopefully this question is close enough to preservation: what is the best way to clean one of the Pullman blankets? I purchased one last year and while it doesn't need to be cleaned yet I'm sure the day will come.
