Does anyone have a history or heritage of each car and locomotive on the former "Spirit" trainset? Any information on the equipment heritage would be much appreciated.

Additionally, several years ago I saw an EMD B-unit from the operation sitting in Oakdale CA on the Sierra Northern.

O,

"rjj400" is the present part-owner of D.F. Barnhardt! He is looking for the geneology of the items he is the agent to sell, because the equipment owner may not know!

Are you familiar with WebLurker's Dome Main web site? It has details on the domes. The full-length one, at the bottom of this page:

http://www.trainweb.org/web_lurker/MILWf/

The UP dome, as UP 8000:

http://www.trainweb.org/web_lurker/UP/

The Santa Fe dome:

http://www.trainweb.org/web_lurker/ATSF/

Note that the UP and MILW cars had the fluting applied by the owner of the dinner train.

I am pretty sure the obs car is ex-Reading from the Crusader train.

Chris,

I am not so sure about the Crusader car. Unless CN modified the end, the car in the ads is too flat to be a Crusader car. Please see this photo of the Crusader obs at Strasburg:

They had Obs car Reading Company #5 sister car to #1 currently at the Railroad Museum of PA on site a few years back, This car is not a match as I look at the window arrangements, roof vent, tail unless they did heavy Mod's to the car.

I did see RDG 5 on site at one time,It has been over 5 years (?) did not have much time to look at it due to schedule
The build date of 1937 matches, RDG #1 its sister car as shown above.

Here is a link to a photo of RDG#5 in Spirit of Washington paint, still has the correct tail.

http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?20061 ... 017630.jpg

another view, check the roof vent.

here is car 101 listed as an open air car, check the roof vent.

http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPictur ... id=1060407

Now i am more confused as to what happened to this car, it appears #5 was converted to an open air coach and had the rear chopped at one time.

seems to be a bigger mystery, car inventory as listed on

Yikes! If that open car is the Crusader car, where is it now? It is not on the auction list.

The open car is not the Crusader car. I came across a photo on rrpicturearchives.net from 2009 showing both cars in the same train. In addition the Crusader car was not rebuilt with a blunt end. Those are two different obs cars. Hopefully many of these cars will find a new home somewhere if they cannot find a buyer for the whole trainset.

Those Fs would look great at the B&O museum. Keep one as is and repaint it to the early MARC scheme and let the other one be restored cosmetically to as built condition.

From an old Spirit of Washington Dinner Train brochure:

Olympic Round End Car-Capacity 46 Built 1937 for the Reading Railroad

Mt. Rainier Dome Car- Capacity 57 Built 1952 for Union Pacific

Columbia Winery Dining/Bar Car-Capacity 64 Built 1938 for Santa Fe Railroad

City of Renton Super Dome Car-Capacity 72 Built 1952 for Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul Pacific Railroad

Cascade Kitchen Car-Capacity 48 Built 1937 for The Santa Fe Railroad

City of Seattle Dome Car-Capacity 59 Built 1950 for the Santa Fe Railroad

Chateau Ste. Micelle Platform Car- Capacity 24 Built 1937 for The Santa Fe Railroad

F7A Locomotives- Built 1953 1750 HP Diesel Electric (These were the locomotives now at the Carrizo Gorge RR)

Also take into account that the WCRC had another train built of similar, if not identical, cars. It was called the Pacific Starlight Dinner Train, and I believe it has since been sold to Canada. The Spirit of Washington originally ran in Yakima with WCRC power and three streamlined cars (including a round-end observation) that were named after places in Eastern Washington.
