Has anybody on this board ever jacked up a diesel to change trucks or load/unload it from a lowboy? If so, how big was the loco, 25 tons, 45 tons etc? How did you do it?

Yes, 45 tons, big air jacks and lots of nice hardwood cribbing.

I've been involved with jacking up E8's, heavyweight cars, and lightweight cars.

The operative word here: CAREFULLY. Seek experienced, professional help.

Second words: BIG jacks. In theory you could do such a thing with several dozen automobile jacks and several folks over several days.......... but I don't suggest that. >;-)

I've jacked up a 45 tonner with 20 ton bottle jacks and cribbing. I've jacked up an S1 to remove its front truck. On the Alcos there are jacking pad extensions that are bolted on so the jacks clear the trucks. I have a set of the extensions if someone needs them BTW. If you have plenty of time and an idea of what you are doing it can be a safe way to lift a locomotive.

PM me offlist with the particulars of what you are lifting and I'll provide some specific advice. If there is one thing I do well its lifting heavy loads with little to no money.
