Post subject:  JCL 1554
At the Delaware Lackawanna South Scranton shop today. Work progress on Central of New Jersey RS-3 1554. She runs fine, however need much incidental work yet, plus paint. Work is being done as manpower, and time allows.

Thanks for the update on this engine. Looks like installing the ditch lights and getting the cab ready for paint was where they left off.

Interesting to see they used peg board (Masonite product) instead of regular Masonite for panels in the cab. I'm wondering if there's any benefit to this, able to breathe/dry out if moisture gets behind it, or they just used what they had on hand or easily gotten? We have a stored RS-3 in need of replacement of the same panels and I was thinking of donating some sheets of regular Masonite to recreate the panels.

Of course the DL is using theirs in regular freight service. If your RS3 is going to be a display piece what you do might be very different than expecting it to haul revenue freight - and MU with three other RS3s!

The cab is now painted and the floor installed......We use masonite pegboard on the ceiling because it is easy to bend to the radius of the cab, and mostly because it quiets the cab.

That's a nickname for one of my men who loves working on RS3s. He's a glutten for punishment!
