The Susquehanna had two RS-3's in the 1980s, the 101 and the 104. From what I have been able to gather they were redone in the early 80s and were active units until 1985 with the 101 and as late as 1987 with the 104. Last evidence I can find is the 104 stored in Binghampton, NY in late 1989 (alongside the S2 #206 that is now at Maywood Station) from a pic on rrpicturearchives. That's where the trail ends. Does anyone know what became of either of these units? Have they been cut up or scrapped for parts or are they still languishing somewhere?

This well-presented unofficial all-time NYSW roster indicates both were scrapped at CVSR in 1996:

I believe the NYS&W owned a former Reading unit (the 102 or the 103) which survives. Information not handy at this time.

From a Railroad.net post years ago:

102 was LASB 465, former RDG 465, acquired by DO 1976

103 assigned FJ&G, former Roberval & Saguenay 31, RDG 492

RRPictireArchives says 465 was c/n 79871, 492 was 80110.

492 ended up in the URHS dead line at Boonton, NJ and was shot there in 2009:

RDG 492 and the 2 Rahway Valley GE 70 tonners were traded in to GE for the 4 B40-8's the NYS&W acquired. URHS swapped GE one or more GG1's and E8's for these since they were only going to be scrapped anyway.

The 2 RV units ended up at the Whippany Railway Museum.

Thanks Alex! Somehow I couldn't find any info after they went into storage with the NYS&W. The Susie-Q definitely had an interesting mix of equipment.

Now I wonder what CVSR's reasoning was for scrapping them. Unless they had some unknown mechanical problems they seemed in good condition otherwise. Atleast one of them, ex 104, was in service for them too. CVSR has other Alco's so it wasn't like they were odd balls there.

Both locomotives went to Rome Locomotive Works in the late 80s in exchange for work conducted on the Susquehanna SD-45s. The 101 became RLW 4088, original D&H number, and was a good runner. I believe 104 had very flat wheels and never ran at RLW. Both engines were sold to Cuyahoga in 1992, 4088 still running strong.
