Often on the Interchange I see links to newspaper articles, often with no discussion. Do these posts not belong on Flimsies? They seem to bump conversations down further. Joshua |

In my opinion, if you just want to post a link to a story, then do so in the Flimsies. If you have a comment to add about the story link, then post the link and comment to the Interchange. |

Oh also in the name of cleaning up the top of the forum, moderators please remove the "New Moderator" sticky. Tom Gears has been a moderator for seven months now. He is no longer "new". On edit, what about moving the announcements "Read First, Read Second" etc. posts from the forum to the announcements? Maybe combine all that info. together into one post. I think we can eliminate at least three subject lines off the top if some stuff was eliminated or combined. Thanks. |

One difference in having articles posted in the interchange is that they will not be deleted like the Flimsies. If the Flimsies were archived then I would prefer all article links be posted there, for certain. I personally am not bothered by links posted to the interchange. |

If the Flimsies were archived then I would prefer all article links be posted there, for certain. The problem with that argument is that a great many of the news sources linked at Flimsies aren't themselves archived, or slide behind paid access eventually. I've even seen links at Flimsies go dead before they can fall off the end of the queue there! I agree with the idea that links to the more important stories.news should be posted with appropriate commentary when warranted--I've done it myself. But not the routine "Town seeks to restore station" or "Retired railroad worker remembers days of steam" stories. |
